Jagna and the Voyt are discovered drunk together in the woods

Jagna and the Voyt are discovered drunk together in the woods after a group of villagers comes upon them lying beneath juniper bushes. The incident becomes a public scandal not simply because the pair have been drinking, but because their exposed intimacy brings together sexual suspicion, the Voyt’s public standing, and Lipce’s power to watch and judge its own people. Kozłowa’s vivid account makes the discovery a spectacle: the pair are not awakened at once, and the village is given time to see what has happened.
